Design and Technology is an essential part of the National Curriculum. It prepares
students to appreciate and use modern technologies that improve the quality of life.
Design and Technology calls for students to become creative problem solvers as
individuals and as members of a team. They combine practical skills with an understanding
of aesthetic, social and environmental issues, function and industrial practices.
All of our pupils are given the opportunity to develop their problem-solving and
practical skills. This is achieved through practical focus tasks and Design and
Make projects using a variety of materials. We have an excellent suite of rooms
which provide students with a stimulating and safe environment to work in. Years
7, 8 and 9 follow the National Curriculum Key Stage 3 Design and Technology
Programmes of Study. We focus on designing and making in food and resistant materials.
Years 10 and 11 can follow the Diploma and BTEC courses in Construction and the
Built Environment, or a GCSE Design and Technology course in Food Technology or Catering.
