Health and Social Care is a new double GCSE course which is of interest to students
thinking of working in a caring role: social work, nursery nursing, therapy, general
nursing, care of the homeless and paramedic.
The course consists of 4 modules, 2 assessed by examinations and 2 by controlled assessments:
- Human development and factors which influence it.
- Needs of people and services provided for them.
- What are health and wellbeing?
- Ways of measuring health and ways to improve it.
Students will get opportunities to study a residential home and a nursery. There will be a varied programme of discussions, DVD and magazine case studies and visiting health professionals, leading to increased self awareness and understanding of some jobs in the care sector.
