The Department of Religious Studies teaches all children. All students follow a
course based on religious, moral and ethical studies.
In years 10 and 11 all students follow a GCSE course. The study of religions is
often misunderstood as a subject by those who have not had much contact with it to date.
It does not 'indoctrinate' or 'make people believe' but tries to show how and why
people behave as they do. It introduces various traditions and cultural practices to
children who would otherwise have no opportunity to encounter them. It makes children
aware of the vastly varying religions and cultural traditions which exist around them
and enhance their spiritual, moral, cultural and social development.
